Hello, I’m Harold Walsh, an Industrial Designer from Australia with a focus on product strategy. My expertise lies in applying the voice of the customer to technically complex solutions. I have skills that span the entire design process from intial conceptualisation and visualisation, to design for manufacture, development and engineering. My background has enabled me to excel in designing user-friendly human-robot interactions.

4. Pepper and NAO apps

Pepper the most mass produced humanoid (approx 30k units),
NAO the most mass produced bipedal humanoid (approx 15k+ units)
Whiz, the global No. 1 autonomous professional cleaning robot (approx 10k+ units)

During my role as a Product Manager for SoftBank Robotics (SBR), I led local deployment for the Pepper, NAO, and Whiz robots respectively in the APAC region, coordinating with teams across  APAC, Japan, EMEA, China, and USA. My role encompassed business development, product demonstrations, client training workshops, quality control, and technical support. Although hardware design and manufacture, mostly by FOXCONN, was out of my sphere of influence, I had involvement adapting the software systems for these platforms for client usecases.

As a Sales Engineer, I focused on client requirements, development budgets, procurement, and invoicing. I managed mechatronic engineering teams and played a key role in organising events like the 2019 World Robo Cup in Sydney. My technical expertise includes training in Pepper SDK, Choregraphe Suite, and NAOqi framework, developing custom applications, integrating APIs like IBM Watson and Google Dialogue Flow, and adapting operating systems to Android or ROS. I also supported academics researching applied machine learning, robotic vision, natural language processing (NLP), autonomous navigation, and multi-agent systems (MAS) research.

My tenure at SoftBank Robotics highlights my technical acumen, leadership, and ability to adapt in a rapidly changing robotics landscape. In 2022, SBR Europe was acquired by United Robotics Group (URG).
