9. CycleVision





CycleVision EDGE 

While working as an industrial designer at ShapeLabs in 2018, I worked on the Cyclevision EDGE product. The helmet was designed by Form Designs, and ShapeLabs acted as the design for manufacture consultancy. Bringing this product into physicality involved working with tooling and manufacturers to produce prototypes and production units, and created visual assets for a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign to bring a novel bicycle helmet with dual front and back recording cameras to market.

This project encompassed challenging 3D geometries and embedded electronics in safety equipment which needed to be optimised for impact and mass production. The cameras and electronics required several revisions to ensure maximum performance and reliability.

As the manufacturing partner, throughout the development process we conducted destructive testing in-house to minimise the risk as we put the product through formal certification testing. The product was fully certified to CE and FCC standards for electronic products and was to undergo certification to bicycle helmet safety standards such as Australian and New Zealand standards AS/NZ 2063-2008; European standards EN 1078:1997; UK standards BS EN 1078:1997 and BS 6863:1987; USA standards (ASTM) F1447-12 and (ASTM) F-1446-11a (suitable for Canada).

Cyclevision was acquired by Arenberg in 2020, who launched a redesigned Cyclevision RH1 helmet via kickstarter. You can read more about this product here:
